Drain Lining Case Studies

Hillcrest Retirement Center

The Hillcrest Retirement Center is a 280 bed senior care facility that was originally built in 1964.

The Problem

The problem was attributed to pipe corrosion in the drain leading from the Kitchen Dish Room. The 60' (18.3m) of 3" (80mm) Cast Iron drain line had numerous cracks and voids which would clog and create backups whenever the combination drain/garbage disposal unit was in operation. The pipe was located under a portion of the foundation and three of the facilities main air conditioning units which sat on a 10' (3m) x 30' (9.1m) concrete slab. Traditional methods would have shut down the dish room for no less than three days forcing them to use disposable cutlery and dishes. The excavation would have also required that the cooling system be removed temporarily and therefore unavailable to the patients and staff in the July heat.

The Solution

Nu Flow's cured in place pipe restoration. After coordinating with management the Dish Room was temporarily closed while the repair was taking place. The drain was back in service later that afternoon instead of days as with traditional methods. There was no restoration involved and more importantly no disruption to the patients and the day to day operations of the facility.

Baptist Health Center Of Birmingham, Alabama

The Baptist Health Centre is located at 817 Princeton Avenue SW in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Problem

The problem they were experiencing was related to pipe corrosion, voids and cracks in the 260' (79.2m) of 6" (160mm) cast iron line which served as a main in the lower level of the facility. What made this a sensitive situation was the fact that there was equipment such as X-ray machines, M.R.I units and operating rooms above the corroded line. Given the need to have little or no patient or operational disruption, the Director of Real Estate Joyce Blackerby opted for a no dig solution.

The Solution

Nu Flow's cured in-place pipe restoration. The piping system was isolated and the repairs carried out in the evening to avoid disruption. The liners were then installed, cured and the system was back to full service the following morning with absolutely no disruption to the scheduling of patient services.
